Lost myself 2023 (SOLD)

Collage on off-white Rivoli paper backed with form board. An example of The New York Hospital’s NEWBORN IDENTIFICATION papers was torn from the formerly mentioned book BIRTH and stuck to the lower half of the work. You can see the newborn’s left and right footmarks but no marking is made in the center where it reads MOTHER’S RIGHT INDEX FINGERPRINT. Screenshot of long white coat with a huge black fabric circle attached to the front from Loewe’s Spring Summer, 2022, collection. Niamh printed the image of the coat on acetate and cut it out to fit as the imagined mother’s fingerprint. Laid atop the lower half is a photograph the artist took during COVID lockdown of a friend on a beach in Martha’s Vineyard. A polaroid the artist took of herself in 2008 has been printed and cut into a circle to fill the black hole emblazoned on the Loewe coat. Archival water-soluble wax pastels in black, grey and white have been used to make the polaroid look more like a painting. A black and white photograph of smoke is laid beneath the upper half of the work. A scrap of a white cotton dress shirt has been drawn on with fabric markers. The scrap of fabric can be lifted to reveal a face.
