She ascends to fantasyland. Her will strong, reality too... real. (“keep coming back keep coming back”) 2023 (SOLD)
Collage on off-white Rivoli paper backed with foam board. A photograph taken by Niamh on their Contax G2 on Martha’s Vineyard captures a long wood slatted path to a beach, both sides of the pathway have been drawn over with white archival water soluble wax pastel, only the beautiful blue sky is left though the moon drawn with black and gray pastel looks foreboding and the crashing white waves look as if the pathway leads somewhere dangerous. The ascending figure who’s head and legs we don’t see is an image of a dress taken from Balenciaga’s website. The images of feathers, printed on acetate, were attached to a pair of Gucci jeans that Niamh desperately wanted when they were 13. The feathers are used here like flames coming from a rocket launch. The chairs at the bottom appear sad, the artist used stickers of pears, drew over them with black and white pastel. The other object reaching up toward the dress, pleading with her to STAY is a sticker of a rose drawn over in pastels.
